About Pod Walks
The Pod-Walk audios provide guided walks to download, and listen to on your own personal i-Pod, MP3 Player or Mobile Phone. If you fancy a day out, or just want some fresh air and exercise, a Pod-Walk will add a bit extra to your day. Just follow the route and you will be given interesting and helpful information in a friendly relaxed style.
Direction instructions are included in the talk to guide you round the walk, and there are options to pause between tracks.
Listen out for the various “characters” who will introduce particular areas of interest. In the Hungerford Walk you can hear ‘Old Bert’ the barge keeper from 1835 and ‘George the coalman’ from 1907.
The subject of the talks will vary, but will include a variety of topics such as local history, geography of the area, interesting architectural features on any prominent buildings you may pass, as well as local traditions and stories. You may even get a bit of ‘industrial history’.
Is it OK for families?
The walks are aimed at listeners from age 10 upwards, not really for small children, although we aim to develop something in the future
What about older folk (like me)?
If you find the ear plugs uncomfortable, take them out between tracks. Each track is usually about four to five minutes long so there are plenty of opportunities for a break. Alternatively some mobile phones have loud speakers built in, so you can listen to the talk by holding the phone slightly away from your ear. And if you want something better, there are headphones available which fit neatly over the ears.
Why not download our sample walk, then come and visit Hungerford, in West Berkshire (near junction 14 off the M4), and do the ‘Pod Walk’.
