Pod Walks: bringing alive moments in history
Imagine these
| |
- A flint hammer cuts through a tree trunk, suddenly a great crack, and the tree falls. An ancient Briton describes how the tree is going to be hollowed out to make a canoe, using the tools you can see on display
- A baker’s boy is just about to set off on his rounds. Here’s his bike. It’s 6:00am and he’s very tired, but happy to tell you about his day.
- A strange set of fishing lures sits before you. You begin to wonder what on earth they are all for, but almost at once a gruff but friendly voice answers from a river bank somewhere, describing not all, but some of the best ones, and what kind of fish he has caught with them.
- A railway timetable from 1879. A young lad is sent to visit an aunt in Ireland in the summer holidays. He takes the 10:15 from Sunderland, to Liverpool, and then to Holyhead to catch the ferry. Quite an adventure for a nine year old. It happened to my grandfather.
